Description: Optifer Alpha Heme Iron Tablets is formulated to help prevent iron deficiency and iron deficiency anemia and is based on non-GMO, natural bovine heme iron.

Recommended Dose:

  • For Adults: Take 1 tablet three times daily with food OR as recommended by your health care professional.
  • For Pregnant Women: Take 1 tablet three times daily with food OR as recommended by your health care professional.
  • Take with food. Take a few hours before or after taking other medications.

Medicinal Ingredients (per tablet):

  • 11 mg Elemental Iron (heme iron polypeptide)

Non-medicinal Ingredients:

  • Isomalt
  • Micro-crystalline cellulose
  • Stearic acid
  • Croscarmellose sodium
  • Hypromellose
  • Magnesium salts of fatty acids
  • Silicon dioxide
  • Iron oxide

Warnings:

  • Keep away from children. Accidental overdose of iron-containing products can cause fatal poisoning in children younger than 6 years. If accidental overdose occurs, call a doctor or poison control centre immediately.
  • Individuals that are pregnant, breastfeeding, or have hemochromatosis, other types of anemia, repeated blood transfusions, or stomach/intestinal problems should tell their pharmacist or doctor before using this product.
  • Contra-indications: Before using heme iron, individuals should tell their pharmacist or doctor if using methyldopa or other iron-containing products. Iron supplements can decrease the absorption such as tetracycline antibiotices, penicillamine, cefdinir, chloramphenicaol, levothyroxine, levodopa, and quinolone antibiotics. Therefore, doses of these medications should be spaced as far as possible. This may interfere with certain laboratory tests possible causing false test results. Let laboratory personnel and other healthcare practitioners know you are using this product. This product should not be used if you have certain medical consitions.
  • Known Adverse Reactions: Constipation, diarrhea, nausea, upset stomach and stomach/abdominal cramping may occur. Iron may cause your stools to turn black, an effect that is not harmful. A very serious allergic reaction to this product is rare.
